Boyd Chan

My name is Boyd and I’m a Service Management Specialist with a knack for operational data gathering, transformation, analysis and reporting. In 2012, I obtained my Masters of Science in Information Technology through the University of New South Wales @ The Australia Defence Force Academy (UNSW@ADFA). I was also part of an online community known as the Panasonic Insider Crew in the capacity of “Insider Guru” for Panasonic Australia where I interacted with other tech enthusiasts and find out more about Panasonic's latest gadgets. I love technology, gadgets, and the Internet and maintain a keen interest in these areas locally, nationally, and globally. I hope by sharing my views on these topics that people will receive an honest point of view from someone with a genuine interest in these topics. I have also written and edited articles for Neowin - you can check out my articles over @ https://www.neowin.net/news/poster/boyd_chan I hope you enjoy reading my blog!

Has Firefox Cured its Memory Bloat?

For a while now I have used Google Chrome as my primary browser after growing tired of Firefox consuming gigabytes of memory per session and doing little to free memory apart from when you closed and reopened it. Apparently, Mozilla has made great strides to get memory management under control so I am doing to …

I’ve been using Office 365 for a while now after some issues trying to manage an explosion of e-mail with my webhost and, after some anticipation, I’ve finally had my account upgraded to the equivalent of Office 2013, Exchange 2013 and Sharepoint 2013 overnight. I did have to manually upgrade …

Beware of Micropayments

Having a connection to the internet on mobile devices has enabled an explosion of data accessibility and applications over the last decade. I remember when you needed to load applications via USB or SD card but now you can do it over Wi-Fi or 3G/4G connections without plugging in a cable. Of course, this ease …

Unlock Developer Mode in Android 4.2

Another quick tip if you’ve upgraded your Android device to version 4.2.x. Google saw fit to hide the developer menu under Settings – I can only presume this was because everyday users were getting themselves in a pickle by mucking around with the options in there without understanding what they meant. This is perhaps not …

Check the Compatibility of 3D Glasses

Another quick tip for today. It’s worth remembering that not all 3D televisions use the same sort of glasses to enable 3D viewing, There have been competing solutions out in the market and revisions of those solutions over the years. The main types of 3D glasses you will come across are: active 3D glasses (i.e. …
