YouTube Video Downloading Without Java

A while back, I wrote about how you could use KeepVid to download videos from YouTube but with recent increases in the exploitation of Java I thought I would provide an alternative. YouTube Downloader HD is a native Windows or Mac OS X application that does not require Java in order to run plus it can download …

Desktop Apps for Windows RT

It didn’t take long for desktop apps to be ported over to the ARM-based Windows RT operating system soon after an exploit was found to remove the artificial restriction imposed by Microsoft. Anyway, there is a growing number of apps available over at XDA Developers, including: 7Zip, Audacity, DOSBox, KeePass Portable, Notepad++, OpenTTD (one of …

Ever Heard of Do Not Knock?

Perhaps not technically orientated but I thought this was a good tip to share nonetheless. I reckon a lot of us would of heard about the Do Not Call Register and even registered your phone numbers online to stop telemarketing calls from coming through. However, what if there was something to stop salespeople from knocking on your door? …

Just a quick update. I’ve managed to get my hands on the Panasonic SC-HC57DB Micro Hi-Fi which includes some neat features including AirPlay, DAB+ radio and smartphone app operation. While it does have a now legacy thirty pin iPod dock connector it’ll still be compatible with the iPhone 4S in my wife’s possession. There’s also USB …

Make Your Own iPad Mini Dock with Flybridge

My wife was trying to find an official dock solution for her iPad mini but surprisingly Apple has not brought out anything that will physically prop it up and provide charge at the same time. Look no further than Flybridge. It’s a new Kickstarter campaign to fill the void left by Apple allowing you to …

How to get the Fitbit Base Station Working with Windows Server

Admittedly, this is perhaps a narrow topic but something I would share given power saving efforts at home. Given that I don’t want to leave a desktop and/or a laptop computer on for the off chance that I might walk past wearing my Fitbit I thought it’d be best to piggyback off the home server …

Remove Staples Before Scanning Documents

This might sound obvious to some but others may just completely forget about it. Before you put documents into an ADF (automatic document feeder) you should make sure there aren’t any staples holding pages together. Best case, all the pages go through unscathed at the same time or the scanner refuses to load the paper. …
