Boyd Chan

My name is Boyd and I’m a Service Management Specialist with a knack for operational data gathering, transformation, analysis and reporting. In 2012, I obtained my Masters of Science in Information Technology through the University of New South Wales @ The Australia Defence Force Academy (UNSW@ADFA). I was also part of an online community known as the Panasonic Insider Crew in the capacity of “Insider Guru” for Panasonic Australia where I interacted with other tech enthusiasts and find out more about Panasonic's latest gadgets. I love technology, gadgets, and the Internet and maintain a keen interest in these areas locally, nationally, and globally. I hope by sharing my views on these topics that people will receive an honest point of view from someone with a genuine interest in these topics. I have also written and edited articles for Neowin - you can check out my articles over @ https://www.neowin.net/news/poster/boyd_chan I hope you enjoy reading my blog!

It’s been a while since I have done any formal study after graduating last year from university with my Masters of Science in Information Technology but it’s time to start reactivating the old grey matter. This time around, I am focusing upon something that I covered in Information and Communication Technology Processes (ZITE8144 at UNSW@ADFA), …

Dealing with the End of Car Registration Stickers

Well, the registration on the Prius is due for renewal in roughly a month and the process itself isn’t very difficult to complete particularly for vehicles under four years old as there is no need for a pink slip. However, at the start of this year the humble registration sticker was abolished by the NSW …

Handling NTLM Proxies on Android Without Rooting

This might be a bit of a bugbear if you’ve tried using your Android tablet on the Wi-Fi at work only to find that the corporate proxy server uses NTLM (NT LAN Manager) authentication instead of basic or plain text authentication. Android doesn’t have native support for NTLM authentication for proxy server which means that …

If you’ve used Windows 8 you might have noticed that it comes with a few bundled apps including four Bing apps: Bing Finance, Bing News, Bing Sport, and Bing Weather. These apps are pretty slick and set the bar high for other Metro apps in terms of interface and quality. Anyway, the team that brought …

Keep Your E-mail Address Private

Not too long ago I wrote about DoNotTrackMe from Abine which blocks all sorts of tracking cookies from being accepted by your web browser. It’s a good way to stop targeted advertising as well as companies building up a profile on your browsing habits. However, it can be just as bad when you have to …

SkyDrive Pro is Not SkyDrive

If you’re an Office 365 user on the Small Business plan or higher then you may have noticed that you get access to something called SkyDrive Pro – when using the web interface it is listed as SkyDrive which may lead you to think that SkyDrive Pro and SkyDrive are related or perhaps the same …

Check Sydney Roads for Upcoming Road Closures

With the City2Surf coming up this weekend you might like to check the various road closures from the CBD out to Bondi just so you don’t get caught up in any traffic jams along  the way. Planning ahead is always a great idea during such events as you can allow for extra time and map …

Windows Phone 8 Book by Paul Thurrott

I am somewhat agnostic to the mobile operating systems I use on smartphones and tablets in that I can pick up any of the mainstream platforms and start using them fairly quickly. That said, I do hold Windows Phone and Android in favour over iOS but they they all have their strengths which align better …
