Reactivating Aero on Windows 8

Some people liked the Aero eye candy that was included with Windows Vista and Windows 7 but noticeably absent from Windows 8. For those of you who didn’t care for it anyway can stop reading but if you didn’t mind this cosmetic tweak to the interface then there is a little mod you can install …

Just a short update. Trying to work out how to get an IPv6 tunnel up and running on the new Billion 7800DXL router modem. I did try signing up for a tunnel with SixXS but apparently the address I provided was invalid and I have to wait a week for a response. I’ll see how …

Active TechNet Subscribers Receive Free Extension

Microsoft’s recent announcement of the end of TechNet took everyone by surprise and, in the opinion of a good number of people, the option of free evaluation software in its place just doesn’t cut the mustard. It’s a shame that the end is approaching but the end has been delayed. If you’re a TechNet subscriber …

Rationalising Network Hardware

Well, as luck would have it on a day when I am working from home the ADSL router modem bites the dust but fortunately I had a couple of 3G connections as backup. The trusty old Dynalink RTA1025Wjust couldn’t manage to sync up to the exchange anymore and would have pushed at least a couple …

Keep Track of Flights Carrying Family and Friends

Here’s a quick tip – this time in the form of an app recommendation. Maybe you need to collect family and friends from the airport quite a bit or perhaps only once every so often. Otherwise, if you’ve dropped someone at the airport you might want to keep tabs on their flight just so you …

Using an External Microphone on a Lenovo T520

Another quick tip for today. To put it simply, the built-in microphone on my Lenovo T520 is terrible to put it politely. Attempting to use the microphone on a Lync call was a fruitless exercise with the other party unable to hear me. Even with the levels cranked right up for the microphone it wouldn’t …
