Disable Social Advertising on LinkedIn

This might have gone under the radar for many people who use LinkedIn in terms of being opted in for “social advertising” on its service. In a nuthshell, your photo and name may be used in ads shown to other members of LinkedIn in relevance to companies and services when you make recommendations or follow entities on the site.

If you’re like me, this probably doesn’t take your fancy so this is how to disable it.

Once logged into LinkedIn, do the following:

  1. Click on your name up the top right-hand corner of the page,
  2. Click “Settings”,
  3. Click on the “Account” tab on the left-hand side of the page,
  4. Click on “Manage Social Advertising”,
  5. Untick the box next to “LinkedIn may use my name, photo in social advertising”.

Another option you might want to consider turning off is “Turn on/off enhanced advertising” which is also under the “Account” tab.

From time to time, companies will pull a fast one on you so we must remain vigilant when we want to continue using their services.
