If you maintain your own server sometimes it can be easy to overlook what is going on with it especially when it sits tucked away somewhere out of mind and out of sight. Particularly, if you are running applications that can cost you money such as a VoIP PABX it is wise to check the activity records to keep tabs on what is going on.
Earlier today, I got an e-mail from one of my VoIP providers that they had noticed some strange activity on my account including calls to Israel and other countries I had never called before. I thought this was odd but nonetheless I checked the logs on my server and I was surprised to find that this was true.
Needless to say, I have now disabled everything until I can find out how this happened in the first place and review all of the security that is currently in place. Personally, it might just be easier to remove everything as my mobile plan includes unlimited calls to all the numbers I would ever want to dial plus credit for international calls.
At any rate, sure it can be boring but keeping tabs on what is going on is always an important thing.
