An Easier Way to Run Applications as Administrator in Windows Vista & Windows 7

Here’s a quick tip for this evening.

From time to time, we need to open an application as an administrator instead of the limited user rights that we have by default in Windows Vista and Windows 7. However, this can be a pain as you need to locate the program you want to run (either by typing it in the search bar or finding the shortcut) then right click on it and choosing the “Run as administrator” option.

There is a quicker way to do the same thing.

All you need to do is hold down the Shift and Control keys before clicking on the shortcut of the application in your task bar or in the Start Menu. Windows will then prompt you to confirm if you want to execute the application as an administrator as usual.

Couldn’t be easier. Of course, you should try to avoid opening everything as an administrator so as to protect your computer from nasty things but sometimes you need this with elevated command prompts to run particular system commands.
