Disable “Natural” Scrolling in Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)

Here’s a quick tip for people moving across to Lion.

By default, the scroll gestures that we have become accustomed to are now inverted to simulate what would happen on an iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad. Scrolling from bottom to top on your trackpad will scroll the page up will scrolling from top to bottom will scroll up. Some people (like myself) prefer the old “scroll wheel” method of scrolling for their computers while leaving the “natural” scrolling for touch screen devices.

So how do you disable natural scrolling?

  1. Head in the System Preferences,
  2. Go into “Trackpad”,
  3. Under the “Scroll & Zoom” tab untick “Scroll direction: natural”,
  4. Close the window.
You should now be back to the “normal” way of scrolling!
