A while back, I wanted to get my wife an external battery to take overseas just in case she was away from a power point longer than her devices could retain their juice. I also was interested in something that could also recharge her MacBook Pro if it were in dire need of power.
The solution that ticked all the boxes in this case was the HyperMac External MacBook battery. I settled on the 60Wh (Watt hour) model.
In terms of rated recharging it is supposed to be capable of the following:
- 13″ MacBook Pro,
- 1x recharge.
- Apple iPad,
- 2.4x recharges.
- Apple iPhone 3GS,
- 13.3x recharges.
- Apple iPhone 4,
- 11.4x recharges.
You can pretty much connect any USB chargeable device directly to the HyperMac battery and you’ll be charging in no time provided you have the right cable. If you want to recharge your Mac you can use the provided USB to MacBook MagSafe power cable. Sadly, due to a licensing stoush with Apple, these special cables will no longer be sold after 2nd November, 2010 – so if you are keen to get your hands on one of these make it quick!
The HyperMac battery also comes in four capabities, specifically 60Wh, 100Wh, 150Wh and 222Wh (which could recharge an iPad just under nine times) but of course the size and weight of the battery also increases. Road warriors may appreciate the larger capacities while having their favourite devices recharging on rotation whilst away from home and the office. It can also come in handy when you have a blackout and your mobile is ever so conveniently on the verge of running out of juice.
I’ll aim to do a video review of the unit this weekend to show you what it looks like and how it works – in the meantime you can head over the the HyperMac shop to check out the prices.
