With Windows 8.1 upon us I thought I would do a video on how to upgrade your Windows RT device (such as a Microsoft Surface RT) to Windows RT 8.1. It’s not a difficult process but it does take some time given the limited processing power in RT devices. The upgrade process for both Windows 8 and Windows RT would be the same nonetheless.
Warning: Before you start, ensure that your device is plugged in and you have backups of important data!
At the time of writing, Microsoft has temporarily pulled the ability to upgrade to Windows RT 8.1 due to some reports of devices becoming bricked. I didn’t end up bricking my Microsoft Surface but there are a couple of points during the upgrade which make it seem as if the Surface has stalled or powered off when it has not.
Anyway, I am really looking forward to using Outlook 2013 RT which is bundled in the upgrade and also seeing how this may improve things in the tablet market for Windows RT and Microsoft.
