Google Nexus 7 3G Price Fluctuations

Given the recent speculation on the release of a second generation Google Nexus 7 3G Android tablet it looks like local pricing might provide some indication of what may happen in the near future.

In a nutshell, I saw the price of this tablet at around $330 at a number of big name shops a few weeks ago followed by a price hike last week to $360 or higher followed by a massive plummet to $295 this week. if you’re looking for a good deal on a Nexus 7 3G then now might be a good time to buy but only if you’re not worried about owning superseded technology in the near future.

I’ve had my eye on this tablet and the Asus Fonepad as a cheap replacement device for my Samsung Galaxy S smartphone. However, my main gripe with the Nexus 7 is the lack of rear camera but I have been tempted by the stock Android experience and the lightning fast updates from Google. On the other hand, I am curious about how a tablet with phone call functionality might work in terms of practicality but lament the fact that Asus has customised the Android OS and that OS updates will likely be slower (as is the case with other non-Google branded devices). On the upside, the Fonepad does sport a rear camera.

Anyway, sometimes it can be good to wait until the end of a product cycle to grab a bargain but you’ll need to weigh that against the potential benefits of waiting for the latest and greatest revision.
