The title really says it all but I thought I would share my experience with the Touch Cover and Type Cover for Microsoft Surface.
To put it plainly, they are chalk and cheese. You can type far more easily and efficiently with the Type Cover compared to the Touch Cover with a minor increase in thickness. Plus, if you’re going to the trouble of having and leaving a keyboard connected to your Surface, you may as well go the whole hog and get the Type Cover.
One downside that you may find is that you might not like the sensation of having push buttons when the keyboard is folded up behind the Surface compared to the flush surface of the Touch Cover. This may put you off gripping the cover by the keys too hard but if you adapt your grip to align with just the edges then you should be able to avoid it.
Another minor quibble I have is that the Type Cover should have had something better than a fabric finish underneath the keyboard – maybe rubber. You don’t want liquids anywhere near the Type Cover as the fabric will absolutely soak it up and I would assume it’d wreck havoc with the electronic innards. Sure, you don’t go putting laptops and other electronics on damp surfaces but their plastic or metallic casings do a lot more to repel moisture in comparison to fabric.
All in all, for me the Type Cover is where it is at for Microsoft Surface and really boosts the productivity that can be achieved on this tablet.
