Access the Control Panel Quickly Under Windows 8

Another Windows 8 tip for you out there.

Since the move away from the Start Menu to the Start Screen some user may find the process of getting to a specific control panel applet a little more involved that it used to be back Windows 7. Unfortunately, in the Start Screen you can’t just start typing the name of the control panel applet you want to access and you can only do this once you have brought it up.

However, there is a slightly quicker way to get around this problem.

  1. Hit the Window key to bring up the Start Screen,
  2. Type in Control Panel and hit Enter,
  3. Type the name of the desired control panel applet in the search box up in the top right corner,
  4. Click on the applet you wish to launch,
  5. Right click the Control Panel icon in the taskbar and select Pin this program to taskbar,
  6. Right click the Control Panel icon once again and pin the desired applet to the jump list  by clicking the pin on the right.

A little fiddly to setup but once done it can save you some time later on down the track.
