Just a quick one tonight.
For a long time, I used the built-in notepad application in Windows to jot notes and other temporary information as it was quick to load and didn’t burden you with formatting overheads. However, one significant drawback is that as the size of a text file increases, the slower Notepad becomes.
There is an alternative – namely Notepad++.
Notepad++ is still incredibly fast but remains so with larger text files. It also has great colour coding functionality when you are dealing with programming languages, tabs for switching between multiple files and advanced methods for searching and replacing strings of text.
Best of all, it’s free! Also, for those of you who are unable to install applications on corporate computers there is a portable version of Notepad++ available to run off a USB stick.
So if you regularly work with text files and have grown beyond the standard notepad in Windows, give this a go.
