If you regularly visit the blog then you might have noticed that I have changed the comments to use Disqus instead of the standard WordPress commenting system. I liked the idea of comment integration and the ability to continue discussions on other sites and thought I’d give it a try.
Signing up for an account was easy enough as was installing the appropriate plugin for WordPress. Syncing comments with Disqus was also a snap requiring just a single click. It was rather effortless to say the least and I thought I was close to seeing everything up and running.
How wrong I was.
Jump forward 48 hours and Disqus hasn’t even started to process any blog comments for the site. To their credit, Disqus does have a service status page with a problem noted with the importer since April 3rd. Not exactly a fantastic situation and I don’t fancy whatever Disqus considers “shortly” in terms of a timeframe – six days since the acknowledgement of the problem and it has not caught up.
To be honest, I’m on the verge of pulling the plug on Disqus before it has gotten a go on the site. I could re-enable WordPress comments but then I would have to sync that and then wait for that delta to resync again. Perhaps not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but if I can’t even get comments into Disqus then it really diminishes my faith in the platform to perform well over time.
