I thought I would write about this after my experience over the last few days after resetting my Samsung Omnia 7 on the weekend.
After getting my phone back up and running there appeared to be an update for the “Now” app on the phone. This app is specific to Samsung Windows Phone devices and can be found in the “Samsung Zone” in the Marketplace. However, attempting to update the app resulted in an error advising that there was a problem updating and to try again later. This has continued for several days and it appears that I am not the only one affected by this issue.
Frustratingly, if you do not have a developer unlocked phone then you’re going to tough it out until Samsung sorts out whatever is going on. However, if you do have a developer unlocked phone you can download a patched version of the app over at XDA Developers and then use the app deployment tool to push the app on to your phone.
In the meantime, Samsung is copping a pasting for broken updates and broken apps. It’s AllShare app on Windows Phone 7 instantly closes upon execution with the error “This device does not support AllShare. AllShare will be terminated.” The workaround to get AllShare working is to:
- Open AllShare,
- Immediately hit the home button,
- Hold down the back key,
- Select AllShare from the list of running apps,
- Use the app as it was intended.
