Running a Bitcoin Client Whilst Gaming
This might be an obscure combination but thought I’d share it anyway.
If you happen to use a Bitcoin client for sending and receiving payments in this digital currency you might find that it can affect your ability to play online games that heavily rely on low ping times. The Bitcoin client maintains numerous network connections in order to keep track of the various transactions that take place which can overwhelm the network connection required by your game of choice.
This impact seems to occur when you are catching up on cipher blocks if you have not run your client for a while or you are running it for the first time. This shouldn’t happen too much once you have caught up but if you are rather sensitive about your ping times then you might consider turning off your Bitcoin client for your gaming session.
