Get Tux the Penguin in Team Fortress 2 on Windows
With Steam now officially available on Linux, Valve is celebrating with a free promotional for Team Fortress 2 in the form of a Tux penguin. If you use Windows then you might feel left out but if you really want a Tux penguin then you could always do the following:
- install Oracle VM VirtualBox,
- install Ubuntu in a virtual machine,
- install Steam in the VM,
- install TF2 in the VM,
- fire up TF2 (even if the screen ends up blank – so long as you can hear audio that’s all you need),
- delete the VM to reclaim the space.
If you want step-by-step instructions on how to do this you can have a look at this guide here but it might not be for the faint of heart. Otherwise, if you are somewhat comfortable with running a VM and Linux then you can probably wing it and get the desired results.
Mind you, it might take a while to complete end-to-end (maybe a few hours) so you might just let the various installs do their thing in the background while you do other tasks.
