Enable Time Lapse Recording on Panasonic HC-X900M Camcorder

Here’s a quick tip if you want to muck around with the time lapse recording function on the Panasonic X900M camcorder.

Out of the box, you can’t use time lapse recording as the option is greyed out in the record setup screen. This is because you need to  change the zoom mode from the default of i.Zoom 23x (intelligent zoom) to Opt.Zoom 12x (optical zoom). You can change this setting as follows:

  1. Tap the two outward point arrows in the bottom left of the touchscreen,
  2. Tap Menu,
  3. Tap Record Setup,
  4. Tap Zoom Mode,
  5. Tap Opt.Zoom 12x at the top of the menu,
  6. Tap the back button at the bottom of the screen.
From here, you can enable time lapse recording by tapping Time Lapse Rec and choosing the desired time lapse period:
  • 1 second,
  • 10 seconds,
  • 30 seconds,
  • 1 minute,
  • 2 minutes.
If you can’t enable time lapse recording, you’ll also need to make sure you are in a compatible recording mode by tapping Rec Mode and choosing one of the following 1080/50i modes:
  • HA 1920,
  • HG 1920,
  • HX 1920,
  • HE 1920.

Essentially, anything except 1080/50p and iFrame will get you on the right track. Anyway, I might have a play with this and see what sort of cool videos I can capture 🙂

I’ve read your article on Time Lapse for Panasonic x900, which I found very interesting. I use 1080/50p, so does that mean that there’s no way that I can use Time Lapse?

    Kind regards

    Colin

    1. Hi Colin, I believe that is in fact the case – not sure why this limitation was imposed.
