How to Swap Android Keyboards

Here’s a quick tip for those Android users out there.

Some Android smartphones come preloaded with soft keyboards unique to the manufacturer each with their own various nuances and capabilities. For instance, Samsung keyboards have had “Swype” built into their soft keyboards which has allowed you top drag your finger over the letters of a word after which you raise your finger to finish “typing” that word. While that it pretty it can be a little cumbersome if you use a variety of words that aren’t in the dictionary and you end up manually typing them out anyway (often fighting with the word prediction as a result).

Anyway, if you’ve installed an alternative keyboard that you prefer or fancy trying over the soft keyboard that came as standard with your smartphone there is a quick and simple way to do it. Simply hold down the space bar key on the soft keyboard until the menu appears with a selection of all available keyboards. Just tap on the one your want and off you go.

Of course, this relies upon your smartphone already having alternative soft keyboards installed. There are many to choose from in the Android Market Google Play store most of which are free so you won’t risk anything by installing them.
