Ever since Windows 7 came out I have been a huge fan of the Superbar however it can get a bit cluttered with icons for several browsers, Microsoft Office Apps and a stack of other things that I need from time to time. Sure, I have real estate to spare but the Superbar does start to sprawl a bit which I don’t fancy.
Anyway, I have come across an application called “Bins” which allows you to group applications into group (or “bins”) right on the taskbar and save some space. Once Bins is installed, you just drag one taskbar icon on top of another and a group will appear above it. Just drag the icon into the group and you have a brand new bin. To remove an icon from a group just hover your mouse over the bin and drag the icon out of it back onto the taskbar.
So far, I have been able to group my icons a bit into browsers, Microsoft Office applications, IM applications and music applications.
Unfortunately, Bins won’t be free but is available for public beta for the time being. If you are challenged for real estate on your taskbar and don’t fancy going double height then this may be for you.
