Sometimes ignorance is bliss or silence is golden depending which way you look at it.
Last week at work I was discussing Google+ with someone who had noted that there was a distinct lack of ability to add someone to your circles but to completely suppress their content from showing up in your stream. You might want to do this for people that get a bit tetchy about being socially shunned but add little or no value to your stream. If anything, they might actually introduce more noise into your stream.
Pretty much, you’ve either had to suck it up or start writing down a list of viable excuses and striking off each one as you use them (and hopefully not running out).
Well, Google had added a new ignore option for people outside of your circles who add you to one or more of their circles. In essence, it’s a “soft delete” with no notification going back to that particular person without adding them to your circles. Unfortunately, this does nothing for the socially sensitive types who really want to be in your circles. What we really need is a mute circle so we can add people (but not let them see which circle they are in) and not have their stuff fill up the stream.
Sure, Google+ is a work in progress but this is an important feature that’s still missing.
