Free Your Android Device of the USB Cable with SwiFTP
Here’s a quick tip for those who are prone to losing, misplacing or hate using cables.
There’s a great app called SwiFTP (a contracted form of “Swift FTP”) which basically install a compact FTP server on your phone. Then you can connect to it using your favourite FTP client (such as FileZilla) and drag and drop files over Wi-Fi as you please without the need to connect a USB cable.
I find this app particularly handy when I have left my phone upstairs charging and I need to transfer photos off it or I want to transfer more music or videos onto it (before I came across WINAMP) – it’s great for the couch potato! You can leave the app running in the background all the time but I choose to turn it off when I am not using it to conserve battery life and also to stop others from attempting to get into the FTP server by guessing my password (don’t be lazy by using a weak password).
SwiFTP is free and installation is an absolute snap from the Android Market.
