Check Your Voting Enrolment Online Now

With the Prime Minister of the day expected to call an election tomorrow for late August, I thought it was important to remind everyone to check their voting enrolment. Every vote counts and ensuring that you are correctly enrolled is especially vital this election.

To check your electoral enrolment, go to the Australian Electoral Commission website. You’ll need to provide your name and residential address to verify your enrolment. Rest assured, your details will be transmitted safely as it is performed over a secure connection.

If you are not enrolled or need to change your enrolment details, GetUp has made the controversial move to accept online enrolment forms and fax them on behalf of those who choose to use their service. In order to make this work, you need to sign with your mouse or some form of pen input (like a tablet).

Be aware that if you choose to use the GetUp form, the AEC is maintaining their stance of refusing electronic signatures. That said, it would be up to the AEC to determine what is a digital signature and one that came out of an old school pen. If you want to play it safe, go directly to the AEC website, fill in the correct form, print it out, sign it and either:

  • submit it in person at an AEC office,
  • send it via snail mail,
  • send it via fax,
  • scan it and send it via e-mail.

Don’t leave it until the last minute!
