Consider Switching to Wi-Fi in Larger Venues

On the weekend, I went along to see a presentation from Martin Seligman about positive psychology which actively encouraged the use of Twitter for the duration. This was hoped to encourage discussion inside and outside of the venue which happened to be the Sydney Opera House as part of the Ideas at the House presentation series. In a similar move, the Superbowl venue in the USA also promoted use of its Wi-Fi network to help reduce congestion on cellular networks and enable fans to share their experience on social media networks.

However, with many people converging in one area it can wreck havoc with trying to get a cellular data connection going given diminishing signal. Fortunately, some larger venues are deploying Wi-Fi networks to get around the data choke where events permit such connectivity. In such cases, it can’t hurt to check out to check if there is a public Wi-Fi network available.

Of course, such network will be insecure so be mindful of what you do as others could potentially snoop on what you are doing unless they those connections are encrypted.
