Panasonic NR-BY552XSAU Inverter Fridge Unboxing

A couple of weeks ago I managed to take delivery of a new Panasonic refrigerator to replace our aging and capacity strapped Fisher and Paykel Q 442L fridge. It took some effort to get the fridge into the house and shuffle the old and new fridges around but my wife and I finally managed to get the job done.

Anyway, here is the unboxing video for the Panasonic NR-BY552XSAU inverter fridge

I am going to benchmark power consumption for the first and fourth weeks of operation for the new Panasonic fridge in order to compare the results against the old fridge. The fourth week is very important as that is when the ECONAVI functionality kicks in after the fridge has learned enough about the usage patterns of the household to optimise its cooling power. The light sensor on the fridge also detects when the surrounding area is dark so it can also dial back the power to keep the contents of the fridge cool.

FYI – the video will be available in up to 1080p (YouTube can take a little while to process the higher resolutions) if you right click on the video and choose “Watch on YouTube” and change the resolution setting.

Anyway, stay tuned for the preview video!

Thanks for the youtube videos. We are considering getting this fridge or the similarly shaped Electrolux 510L bottom mount fridge. Do you have any updates on the fridge? Any problems with the lower drawer microfracturing or with the noise?

    Cheers

    1. The fridge is still doing very well. The lower drawer is still functioning but we just have to remember not to put too many dense items in it as that can make it a bit stiff to operate.

Regarding noises, it is rare to hear the compressor make much of a fuss. You’ll hear it most after a blackout if you’ve been in the fridge a bit before the power has come back on. You might also hear the odd noise or two but that comes from putting too much stuff in the fridge which inhibits airflow and cooling capacity.

Those things aside, we still love it. I could probably dial back the intensity of the freezer a bit as the default setting is making icecream a little too hard. The power savings have been most welcome as well!
