Change the DirectX Level in Team Fortress 2
Perhaps a niche piece of knowledge but one that will come in handy when troubleshooting graphics issues in Team Fortress 2.
If, for whatever reason, you’ve set the game to use a lower version of DirectX to correct a graphical glitch and you want to revert back to a higher DirectX level then this is all you need to do.
- Right click on the game in your Steam library.
- Click on “Properties”,
- Click on “Set Launch Options”
- Type in “-dxlevel xx” (where xx is your maximum supported DirectX version like 70, 80, 81, 90, 95 or 100 depending upon your video card),
- Click “OK”,
- Click “Close”,
- Launch the game.
You’ll have to set your graphics settings including the resolution and other graphical qualities again as they will be erased after adding the launch option. Then, close TF2 and then remove the “-dxlevel xx” text you had typed in previously (otherwise you’ll reset your graphics settings again).
