For a while I have had my eye on the Nokia Lumia 1520 to replace my Lumia 920. The 6″ Full HD screen on the Lumia 1520 was hard to go past and, prior to the Windows Phone 8.1 update, I really dug the extra column of live tiles. Even though I could get the extra column of live tiles on my Lumia 920 the extra screen real estate was still an appealing feature.
Other features that stood out for me have been:
- the higher capacity battery (2000mAh vs 3400mAh),
- SD card expandability (128GB SDXC cards have been verified as being compatible),
- 20 megapixel PureView camera (compared to 8.7MP on the Lumia 920).
Anyway, while I was down in Melbourne on a break from work I spotted what looked like a good deal at Harvey Norman for the Nokia Lumia 1520 during the Easter long weekend which threw in a bonus Lumia 520 (entry level Lumia) for free. The salesperson did do an incredibly hard sell on the “product care” all the way to the checkout which I repeatedly declined which apparently had me unlock the “madman” title in the process.
Well, excuse me for being happy with a local manufacturer’s warranty! Furthermore, my Lumia 920 has survived being dropped several times and hot tea being spilt all over it so even though I don’t plan on subjecting the Lumia 1520 to an intense beating I am sure it will survive with an appropriate case.
So, I pulled the trigger and bought it and unboxed it when I was down in Melbourne:
