Just a short update.
My wife was after a camera with decent zoom but a still relatively slim. We have our Lumix FT3 tough camera but the zoom on that camera is fairly limited given that the optics are contained completely inside its body. Provided you can get close enough to a subject that’s not a big deal but that’s not always possible. Plus, if you take a camera to some concerts they prohibit cameras with removable lenses so that ruled out using our GX1 with a modest lens.
Another camera that looked interesting was the Lumix FZ70 with an absolutely staggering 60x optical zoom (which extends to 120x intelligent zoom) but it was going to be too large to stash in a pocket or a smaller bag. So that was a no go.
What seemed to best fit the bill was the Lumix TZ40 which has 20x optical zoom at maximum resolution (which is 24-480mm in a 35mm camera equivalent) which can be boosted up to 40x intelligent zoom when combined with digital zoom. It also packs in Full HD video @ 1080/50p with five-axis optical image stabiliation, NFC, Wi-Fi and GPS. You’ve also got a panorama mode mode for capturing some great landscape shots along with a slew of other creative modes including a 3D photo mode.
Anyway, I’ll let you know when it arrives but it seems I am collecting more cameras these days…
