Suppress Folders From Media Scanning Under Android
Whenever you restart your Android device it does a scan of all of its storage to check for new audio, video and picture files. However, over time there may be folders used by apps that contain such files that end up cluttering up your picture gallery. This can ultimately extend the time taken scanning for files that really shouldn’t be included in your various libraries.
Anyway, there is a way to fix that up and it is as simple as creating a .nomedia file in all of the folders that you don’t want scanned. If undertaking this manual process doesn’t float your boat then you could try using an app such as Nomedia to make it a little bit quicker.
However, your apps may still cache data already gather by the scanner so you may need to clear the data for those apps as follows:
- Go into Settings,
- Go into Apps,
- Tap the problematic app,
- Clear the cache,
- Clear app data,
- Force close.
When you reopen the app it should have everything in order.
