How to Keep a Microsoft Surface Awake When Connected to Power
The Microsoft Surface attempts to offer both a tablet and laptop experience and, at least in my experience so far, it seems to fit the bill (how well is up for debate). However, if you are using the Surface more as a laptop you might become a bit annoyed with the aggressive power saving profile even when you have the AC charger connected.
Thankfully, you can address that scenario as follows:
- Go to the Desktop (hit Window + D or tap the Desktop tile on the Start Screen),
- Tap the power icon in the system tray (should look like a battery),
- Tap More power options,
- Next to Balanced, tap Change plan settings,
- On the next screen, under the Plugged in heading change the settings to suit,
- Tap Save shanges,
- Close the Power Options window.
This should give you more of a laptop experience when connected to power whilst optimising battery life when you are on the go away from the power socket.
