How to Shutdown Raspbmc Properly
I admit, I have been lazy in shutting down Raspbmc on my Raspberry Pi by just pulling the plug which has probably caused some of the problems with booting up the media centre software necessitating a fresh reinstall. Sure, the device doesn’t use that much power at all so I could probably leave it plugged in and forget about it but I thought I would share the correct way to shut it down.
The first method is pretty obvious – it’s the red power button on the interface. Just click that button and the system will take care of shutting down for you.
The other method will work if you are on the command line (i.e. connected via SSH) and you can issue the halt, shutdown or poweroff commands. This will cleanly shutdown the operating system before you pull the plug on the device.
