A new first for the blog – a double unboxing!
This time around I get to show you the Panasonic HC-X900M 3D camcorder which is Panasonic’s flagship consumer camcorder for 2012. Plus, I also show off the VW-CLT2 3D lens which teams up with the X900M to enable you to shoot video in 3D.
The X900M packs in Panasonic’s 3MOS sensor technology which captures red, green and blue light in dedicated sensors to help minimise loss of light, improve low light performance and improve end-to-end colour reproduction. It’s also capable of 3D video recording provided you have the 3D lens (which I do) but if you don’t you can convert video from 2D to 3D as well (but it won’t be as good as capturing it natively). You might expect to have to watch your 3D content on a 3D television but you can actually play it back right on the X900M without glasses.
Speaking of 3D, the CLT2 3D lens itself is pretty special. It differs from its predecessor, the CLT1, in a few ways:
- the attachment mechanism on the CLT2 is now a locking me uses a lock rather than being screwed in,
- the addition of 1.5 digital zoom in the CLT2 compared to no zoom on the CLT1,
- some updates to ease the calibration of the 3D lens on the CLT2.
FYI – the video will be available in up to 1080p (YouTube can take a little while to process the higher resolutions) if you right click on the video and choose “Watch on YouTube” and change the resolution setting.
