Here’s another quick tip for tonight.
Like it or hate it, most of us earning a living are “encouraged” to take out private health insurance for one of a bunch of reasons. It’s always nice to get something back on those various medical fees we incur particularly if we can get it processed at the time of consultation using HICAPS or similar service. Unfortunately, some services still use paper receipts with no electronic processing available at all.
Normally, this would leave you to trudge down to your local private health insurance branch to wait in line, sit around for while bit and finally process your claim. However, you can save yourself the time and hassle by doing it online.
Most private health insurers now allow you to process your claims online with benefits directed to your nominated bank account. The only catch is that you have to hang on to your receipts for a specified period of time. This means that if you’re terrible at hanging on to bits of paper you’ll either have to come up with a system to make it work for you or maybe put up with going down to the local branch.
Anyway, this has saved me around ten trips already and will be something I’ll use more frequently in the new year.
