Get the Better of Locked Files Under Windows With Unlocker

Have you ever tried moving, renaming or deleting a file or folder and getting an error message along the lines of:

“Cannot delete folder: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again”

It can be a pain trying to work out what has locked the file without taking random guesses from the process list in Task Manager (not a good idea). Rebooting can be a pain and time consuming so that’s why a nifty little tool called Unlocker can come in quite handy.

You can grab it here and once installed it allows you to right click on a file or folder and choose the “Unlocker” option from the list. It will then show you a list of locked files and the process that has locked each file. All you need to do is select the file or folders from the list you want to unlock and click on “Unlock” or if you want to unlock everything in the list click “Unlock All”.

That’s all you should need to do to get what you want done with your locked files and folders!

Unlocker is available in 32-bit and 64-bit flavours for Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista and 7.
