In news that may have gone under the radar, a spokesperson for Communications Minister Stephen Conroy announced that legislation regarding Internet filtering would not be introduced in the final sessions of parliament before the coming election.<\/p>\n

This follows the Emissions Trading Scheme also being put out to pasture for the time being as well as the fall out associated with\u00a0 home insulation debacle.<\/p>\n

I’ve already covered my thoughts on “clean feeds” in a prior blog entry<\/a> but thought it important to bring this to attention again. The Coalition still appears to be undecided in terms of their policy which also presents a problem for people wanting a definitive vote against such a system.<\/p>\n

If you are anyway against such a system in Australia then make sure your vote counts at the next election. Do your research on the flow of preferences for candidates in your electorate and make sure you explicitly state your preferences rather than letting the parties decide for you. Labor and the Greens are supportive of filtering and must be sent a clear message that they need to keep their nose out of something as diverse and fluid as the Internet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
