I like to be organised but sometimes find it hard to strike up the motivation to make sense of it all. Ironically, if you give me data that belongs to someone else I’ll happily analyse and reorganise it into something meaningful without too much fuss.

As luck may have it, I stumbled across an iPhone and web application called TripIt earlier today. It works fairly simply, all you do is forward your flight, hotel and rental car booking confirmations to an e-mail address and shortly afterwards, it will construct your itinerary.

TripIt Itinerary

Amazingly, it works very well and gives you your itinerary in your pocket very quickly. You can also shell out for a Pro account which gives you additional features, such as:

alerts when a flight is delayed or cancelled or if there is a gate change,

alternate flight options,

check-in reminders,

frequent flyer points tracking,

sharing your travel information with your “inner circle” (a fancy term for friends on TripIt).

You can also hook up your TripIt account to Facebook and Twitter so people will know your general whereabouts and travel movements. Personally, I have stopped short of setting this up as I think that might be sharing a bit too much information but others might not mind so much.

So if you travel a bit or you fancy a way to rationalise all of those booking confirmations and bits of paper, check out TripIt – you might be pleasantly surprised! TripIt is available for iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad.

With a short holiday planned for later in the year, I have been meaning to put together some sort of itinerary out of all of the various booking confirmations that the missus and I have accumulated.
