{"id":5406,"date":"2013-02-05T11:30:05","date_gmt":"2013-02-05T00:30:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mingersoft.com\/blog\/?p=5406"},"modified":"2013-02-04T20:10:28","modified_gmt":"2013-02-04T09:10:28","slug":"searching-fo-carriage-returns-and-tabs-in-excel-spreadsheets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mingersoft.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/searching-fo-carriage-returns-and-tabs-in-excel-spreadsheets\/","title":{"rendered":"Searching For Carriage Returns and Tabs in Excel Spreadsheets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Most people know how to use the search and replace function in Excel spreadsheets but it can be a tricky task if what you&#8217;re looking for is a non-printable character like a carriage return (i.e. hitting Enter on the keyboard).<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, it&#8217;s easy enough to do once you know how \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>Find and Replace<\/strong> box, click in the\u00a0<strong>Find<\/strong> box and do the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 11.988636016845703px;\">Hold down the\u00a0<strong>Alt<\/strong> key and type\u00a0<strong>0010<\/strong> on the number pad,<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Let go of the <strong>Alt<\/strong> key.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The box will appear blank but don&#8217;t let that put you off &#8211; try searching and if your spreadsheet or selected data has carriage returns in it then those results should show up.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re interested in finding tabs, simply replace\u00a0<strong>0010<\/strong> with<strong> 0009<\/strong> when typing on the keypad before kicking off the search.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most people know how to use the search and replace function in Excel spreadsheets but it can be a tricky task if what you&#8217;re looking for is a non-printable character like a carriage return (i.e. hitting Enter on the keyboard).
