{"id":5364,"date":"2013-01-24T11:30:09","date_gmt":"2013-01-24T00:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mingersoft.com\/blog\/?p=5364"},"modified":"2013-01-24T11:33:01","modified_gmt":"2013-01-24T00:33:01","slug":"desktop-apps-for-windows-rt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mingersoft.com\/blog\/2013\/01\/desktop-apps-for-windows-rt\/","title":{"rendered":"Desktop Apps for Windows RT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It didn&#8217;t take long for desktop apps to be ported over to the ARM-based Windows RT operating system soon after an exploit was found to remove the artificial restriction imposed by Microsoft.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, there is a growing number of apps available over at <a title=\"Desktop apps ported to Windows RT | XDA Developers\" href=\"http:\/\/forum.xda-developers.com\/showthread.php?p=36534446\" target=\"_blank\">XDA Developers<\/a>, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>7Zip,<\/li>\n<li>Audacity,<\/li>\n<li>DOSBox,<\/li>\n<li>KeePass Portable,<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 12px\">Notepad++,<\/span><\/li>\n<li>OpenTTD (one of my favourite games),<\/li>\n<li>PuTTY (SSH?Telnet client),<\/li>\n<li>Quake,<\/li>\n<li>Quake 2.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You will of course require the <a title=\"[Release] RT Jailbreak Tool | XDA Developers\" href=\"http:\/\/forum.xda-developers.com\/showthread.php?t=2092158\" target=\"_blank\">RT Jailbreak Tool<\/a>\u00a0also from XDA Developers to get some desktop app action going so check out the thread there for instructions on how to install it as well as the download link.<\/p>\n<p>You should remember though that the &#8220;jailbreak&#8221; will only last until you reboot the device at which point you&#8217;ll have to run the jailbreak script again to access the desktop apps.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It didn&#8217;t take long for desktop apps to be ported over to the ARM-based Windows RT operating system soon after an exploit was found to remove the artificial restriction imposed by Microsoft.
