Here’s a quick tip for those of you with brand new Windows RT tablets with keyboards including the Microsoft Surface.<\/p>\n

By default, Windows RT has sounds enabled for keystrokes which can be handy for when you are trying to get used to a new keyboard but it can become rather annoying once you get the hang of things. It can also cause others in the vicinity to stare daggers in your general direction when you are typing away and they are trying to do other things.<\/p>\n

In the interests of ongoing harmonious coexistence you may wish to turn off the keystroke sounds as\u00a0follows:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Get to the Start Screen by tapping the Window key on your keyboard (assuming it is attached),<\/li>\n
  2. Hit Window + C<\/strong>,<\/li>\n
  3. Select\u00a0Settings<\/strong>,<\/li>\n
  4. At the bottom of the screen tap\u00a0Change PC settings<\/strong>,<\/li>\n
  5. On the next screen, tap\u00a0General<\/strong> on the left,<\/li>\n
  6. On the right, scroll down until you see the\u00a0Touch keyboard<\/strong> section,<\/li>\n
  7. Locate the option to\u00a0Plat key sounds as I type<\/strong> and turn it off by tapping on it,<\/li>\n
  8. Hit the\u00a0Window<\/strong> key on the keyboard.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
