Since Windows 95, it’s been widely known that to close an application you click on the X in the top right corner of the application window. Over time, the presentation of that X has changed somewhat but the functionality has remained the same.<\/p>\n

With the introduction of full screen Metro apps in Windows 8 it does beg the question of how do you close them?<\/p>\n

Normally, Metro apps don’t have to be closed as these are managed by Windows in the event that memory runs low. However, if you do want to close them there are a few ways to do it.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The old shortcut of Alt + F4 will do the trick for Metro apps just as it works for regular applications.<\/li>\n
  2. Put your mouse cursor in the top left corner of the screen and then drag it down along the left edge of the screen. A bar should them appear showing all of your running Metro apps. Right click on an app and click on “Close” the terminate it.<\/li>\n
  3. The same as the above option but put your mouse cursor in the bottom left corner of the screen and drag it up along the left edge of the screen.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Again, you shouldn’t need to worry about managing Metro apps under Windows 8 but worth knowing just in case you need it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
