Since Windows 95, you could shut down a computer by clicking &#8220;Start&#8221; then &#8220;Shut down&#8221; but with Windows 8 that doesn&#8217;t work as the Start Menu has been replaced with the Start Screen.<\/p>\n<p>So, what do you do?<\/p>\n<p>From the Start Screen:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>press Windows+C on your keyboard to bring up the charms bar,<\/li>\n<li>click &#8220;Settings&#8221;,<\/li>\n<li>click &#8220;Power&#8221;,<\/li>\n<li>click &#8220;Shut down&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Perhaps not as straightforward as it is currently (and perhaps subject to change) but that&#8217;s how you do it!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have had a number of people who are trying out Windows 8 that are stumped by how to actually execute a shut down.
