Just a quick update for tonight.<\/p>\n

Sometimes the tech savvy amongst us are called upon to look at all sorts of computers belonging to friends, family, work colleagues and sometimes unwanted\u00a0acquaintances.\u00a0Trying to find out more about the computer with which you are dealing can be difficult especially for ancient hardware. Unless you know about the hallmarks of a given platform (such as combinations of slots, sockets and headers) you can be in a quandary unless you literally pull the computer to pieces.<\/p>\n

Luckily, there is a small tool available in portable format which you can run straight off a USB drive called CPU-Z.<\/p>\n

CPU-Z (CPU Screen)<\/p><\/div>\n

This nifty little tool will tell you all about the innards of the computer including the CPU, motherboard, RAM and some high level information about the graphics card(s) in the system. This information can be handy when trying to find BIOS updates or trying to discover something as obscure as mixed speed RAM installed in the computer.<\/p>\n
