Every now and then, I need to capture screenshots to share with colleagues via e-mail or to embed into a PowerPoint presentation or a document. Sometimes, it can be a pain having to crop your screenshots to get a particular window or a particular object on screen.<\/p>\n

Here are a few tips to make your life a bit easier:<\/p>\n

  1. To capture just the selected window, hold down the Alt key while pressing the printscreen key,<\/li>\n
  2. Paste the captured image into Microsoft Paint to work with the image,<\/li>\n
  3. Don’t be lazy by doing a copy and paste into the target document (which will end up being a bitmap image by default) as the resultant image will be larger than necessary. Save it as a PNG file first then insert the file into the target document – the file size will be much smaller without compromising on image quality.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If you use Windows Vista or Windows 7 you also have the added luxury of the “Snipping Tool” application which you can load by clicking Start and typing in “Snipping Tool” and pressing Enter. It’s fairly easy to use and the best approach would simply be to give it a go.<\/p>\n
