Using an External Microphone on a Lenovo T520
Another quick tip for today.
To put it simply, the built-in microphone on my Lenovo T520 is terrible to put it politely. Attempting to use the microphone on a Lync call was a fruitless exercise with the other party unable to hear me. Even with the levels cranked right up for the microphone it wouldn’t work.
Maybe it is just my particular laptop but to get around this issue I had to use iPhone headphones with built-in microphone to get things going. The headphone jack on the T520 accepts headphones with integrated microphones rather than offer a dedicated microphone socket.
I was lucky to be saved by the fact that I carry around a number of “just in case” items on this occasion 🙂
