For some professions, it is essential to keep on top of the latest developments in your area of expertise. Magazines can often be a good way of doing so and subscriptions sometimes offer a cost benefit over buying single issues from a shop. Furthermore, you can claim the cost of magazine subscriptions against your tax if they are related to your field of work.
In my case, given that I work in IT it is somewhat important that I keep on top of what is going on in the broader industry whilst expanding my general knowledge. IT magazines can help to a degree in this regard.
However, it is worth bearing in mind that you may be able to find a better subscription deal elsewhere. Similar to what I wrote about yesterday about the end of financial year (EOFY), just because you can claim something as a tax deduction doesn’t mean you should just pull the trigger before finding a better deal. You might consider checking out platforms such as Zinio which offer cross-platform readers for digital magazines which have the added benefit of eliminating the clutter of piled up magazines (I have years worth in the garage in crates which I should perhaps recycle),
So again, spend wisely to make your money go further!
