My Printouts are Terrible!

If you’ve owned a printer at home then you may have faced frustrations with poor quality printouts at one point down the line. Printers are awesome when they work properly with great quality documents and photos appearing almost magically in the tray.

What happens when that magic seems to go astray?

There are a couple of things you can do to try and improve the printout quality on inkjets but the directions will vary between printers so you’ll need to check your support documentation. Essentially, you can try:

  1. cleaning the print heads – if these become clogged on an inkjet printer then it can manifest in seemingly faded, cut off or streaky text or, in the worst cases, no printout at all. You may need to give the print heads a clean a few times if quality doesn’t seem to be back to 100% after the first go,
  2. realigning the print heads – if the print heads are not aligned properly then text can appear fuzzy or misshapen whilst photos may seem blurry with poor colour reproduction,
  3. Swap in some new printer cartridges – if they have been installed for a while then the ink may have clotted beyond any recoverable means.

If the above doesn’t work then you might want to call your printer manufacturer for guidance but you might not be able to rule out a hardware fault or failure as the underlying cause.
