Checking TRIM is Enabled Under Windows 7 or Windows 8
Another quick tip regarding TRIM which has been mentioned a few times on the blog recently.
If you’ve got an SSD you might want to double check that TRIM is enabled to ensure that the garbage collection processes can run and keep your SSD in peak performance. Usually, Windows 7 and Windows 8 will set things up automatically but there could be times when it doesn’t work as planned.
Anyway, here’s what you do:
- Open the Start Menu / Start Screen,
- Type in cmd and then hold down Control and Shift then hit Enter,
- Accept the elevation prompt,
- Type in fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify and hit Enter.
If TRIM is enabled, you should see the following result:
DisableDeleteNotify = 0
Otherwise, any other result means you don’t have TRIM enabled.
