A Safer Way to Save Your Wi-Fi Passwords

The problem with Wi-Fi networks these days is that while you can control the password used on your own networks you can’t do the same for other Wi-Fi networks that are not under your control. This can make keeping track of passwords difficult particularly if you choose not to have your operating system remember them, if you cycle through devices or they have complex passwords that are too hard to remember.

Sure, you could write them down but that is hardly a secure or efficient means of storage.

Fortunately, you can use LastPass to serve this purpose using a secure note template built specifically for Wi-Fi network information. You can access it by doing the following:

  1. Click the LastPass button in your browser window,
  2. Click Secure Notes,
  3. Click Add Secure Note,
  4. On the next screen, select Wi-Fi Password as the Note Type.

If you’re inspired to up the ante with the passwords for your own Wi-Fi networks then you might want to use GRC’s Perfect Passwords facility to generate a 63 or 64 character strings which should put up a decent fight against brute force attacks.
