VLC Gains Funding for WinRT Version
While Windows itself supports a number of mainstream audio and video formats you may still want the peace of mind of a “Swiss Army knife” solution – an app that will pretty much play anything you can throw at it. VLC on the desktop is a fine example of such a solution.
The good news is that VLC reached its funding goal and hopefully we’ll see an app for Windows RT and Windows 8 but time frames are currently known. The video on the Kickstarter project page also mentions a version for Windows Phone 8 but any other mention for a version for the latest Microsoft smartphone operating system is rather scant at this stage.
Anyway, keep your eyes peeled as if the developers can get this right it could be a silver bullet for media playback on devices like the Microsoft Surface.
